SPLIT HOUSES  The brief was to design affordable housing in an area regularly affected by flooding for a local developer. The proposal was based on the barn typology found in proximity to the site.  The barn is conceptually split to create two houses linked by a winter garden accessible either at lower or upper level. The internal layout for each unit is arranged so that living spaces are connected to the winter garden.

A cluster of 8 houses were arranged so that all could benefit from maximum solar gain and views out in this semi-rural part of Wales.  The houses are protected from flooding by sitting on a concrete podium that encloses a garage and flexible space thus eliminating risks of damage to the main living spaces.
