WATERMAN HOUSE   The existing building is of a Victorian neoclassical design and was originally the headquarters for L.G Sloane who were suppliers of rubber bands, playing cards and Waterman pens, and is now known as Waterman House. The building is not listed but lies on the edge of the Strand conservation area within the borough of Westminster and is noted as an unlisted building of merit. Externally the building retains its original features and has extensive decorative stonework with railings and many ornamental features, occupying a prominent corner location between Kemble Street and the busy Kingsway. Internally the building has lost most of its original features and has undergone numerous refits during its current designated office usage.

The new development consists in the use of part basement and part ground floor as a restaurant (Class A3) and use of part ground and first to seventh floors to provide 14 residential flats (Class C3). The proposal involves a number of external alterations including an improved ground façade and a rear extension housing circulation core; new dormer windows at roof level; installation of mechanical plant within the rear lightwell and at seventh floor level; and the installation of an extract duct to the rear elevation.
